Do you wish Ash stayed?

When it was officially announced that Ash was leaving the Pokémon anime series, there was a fair bit of mixed reception among the vocal fanbase of the anime series. Some people loved him and wanted him to stay, while others felt he was the protagonist long enough and it was time to move on.

Which side were you on? Do you miss Ash and want to see him return in the future, even if only for an episode or two?

I never disliked Ash himself. I wouldn’t mind him getting an appearance in Horizons (as long as it’s a minor thing and he doesn’t become a regular, because I feel like that would really derail the plot). But I’m quite glad his story ended. The old anime ended up not really being my thing the more it went on, and I’m a firm believer that all stories should end, even ones I really enjoy.

Actually, I liked the old rumors about Liko being Ash’s daughter. Thought it would’ve been cool, as a way to tie old to new.

I felt like the anime had continued on for far too long, yet when it was announced that they were ending this massive arc, it felt very strange. It felt like yet another thing in my life I had known since childhood was leaving me, despite not watching the anime since Master Quest.

Upon reflection, I am quite satisfied. They gave him a good send off, and he finally became the champion we all wished him to be. I hope we will see him again in the future.

Ash himself? Nah, I never liked him much, although I would have liked to see his father. It would be nice to see some other characters from the original series, though. Gary, maybe? Or some of the old champions and companions.

Gabi I think that's most people's actual desire. It's not so much that they want Ash to keep being the MC -- since there's only so many times you can reboot him -- so much as they want to make sure the lore and characters from the previous series aren't just locked out forever.
