Do you still have your old cards?

Many of us got into the series pretty early on into our lives, and the TCG just happened to be part of that journey for us. Personally, as a fan since 1998, I still have almost all of my old cards here in the apartment with me! They have a lot of sentimental value and I don't expect to let go of them anytime soon.

Do you still have any of your old cards? From how long ago are they?

Yep I still have all of them. Most of my cards are from before 2007. I remember the last set of cards I got was a gen 4 starter tin that I briefly opeend and left untouched in that tin after that, so those cards are in mint condition. The rest of my cards, not so much. My brother bit cards as a kid, so the rarest card I have, a Skyridge Celebi, just has a permanent bite mark all over it. A lot of other rare cards I have are also in poor condition even though I put them in binders decades ago. I would play the card game with my brother or neighbors and we weren't exactly gentle with the cards.

Yep! I still have 95% of my childhood cards, and significantly more were added around 2019 when I bought my friends collection. I also bought and traded more since then, mostly from Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: 151. Many of them, especially the ones from childhood, have a lot of sentimental value too, so they won't be going anywhere 🙂

I mentioned this in another thread, but back in college I sold all but two of my old cards to my cousin. $20 for a huge binder with near-complete sets of most of the earliest expansions, and a lot of promo cards. I really wish I'd held onto it, as my niece loves collecting the cards and she would have really enjoyed it. I also now live in a different part of the country from my cousin, so I'm not holding out any hope that I'll ever get those back.

On the other hand, my cousin has a nephew who might enjoy the cards, so I like to think maybe he got them and is having fun with them.

I'm glad you guys still have a lot of your old cards!

tkarispe I'm sorry to hear you sold your cards on. If it was right for you at the time, try not to have an regrets. I am thankful and feel very lucky after reading many stories about fans losing their collections, that I do still have mine.

While I did give some away, I still have a decent-sized collection. They’re mainly pretty old, from the first set to somewhere in Neo, though not necessarily in mint condition since I used to play the actual game with them and didn’t use sleeves. I’ll still buy packs occasionally because they’re fun to open, but don’t actively collect them.

I've still got all my old cards (give or take the two that were confiscated and never returned, though I've got copies of both); most of them are kept in a binder that's about as old as they are, alongside "newer" cards found at this pop-up flea market held at one of my old schools around late-00s-ish.

My childhood cards go up to Gym Challenge--and maybe a handful of Neo Genesis, though I don't remember if I got those when they were new. :U

I have a very small amount of my original cards, mostly ones that were misplaced when I sold my collection when I was 13 or so. People often ask me if I regret it or not, and I find it hard to say that I do. My cards were far from mint condition and I got $150 for them. $150 was a substantial amount of money for a 13 year old with no job and a tiny allowance. I used that money to buy my PS2, which I still have today. I think I got much more enjoyment out of the PS2 than those cards would have given me, and I was able to buy singles for pennies years later to finally build myself the Haymaker deck I always dreamed of, not to mention individual favorites I never had, like the Jumpluff in my profile pic!

Yes I've kept mine for for years (same with Yugioh and Chaotic). They're still at my childhood home even. Though most of them are from when the second Generation had their cards coming out so like 2001-2002. Even got a from my dad keep maybe half of them in with the rest being in a container. I remember wanting to buy more but for some reason didn't buy many in gen 3 following even though I thought the e-reader was a cool concept.

Didn't play the card game much. I didn't know the rules until I tried playing the GBC game I bought from a game store called microplay. I mostly just liked the art on the cards.

Most of my childhood cards were actually used cards from neighbors, my cousin, and yard sales from the first handful of released sets. But I still have most of them! I still have the card boxes I kept them years back, and they're currently in my office on a shelf. The other day my little brother asked me to look through them so I showed him a bunch of my cards and he was pretty impressed as he's been doing some reselling online lately of Pokemon cards. Unfortunately for him, I guess, haha, I have mostly common cards, since I barely got any new sets for myself and mostly just got hand-me-downs. I do have a handful of Japanese cards from the original few sets though which is kinda neat! Over time I've collected a few of the rarer, holo cards from those early sets, but I don't think I have anything close to a full set of cards for any of the packs. Collecting them this way gave me a unique perspective on playing the TCG game itself though, because my sister and neighbors had to make decks out of whatever I had accumulated, most of which didn't include full evolution lines, so half the decks would cap out at something like a Charmeleon or Nidorino. 😛 It made me appreciate decks with more common Pokemon!

I have such mixed feelings these days. I have all my old cards from the late 90s/early 2000s, including a master set of the Team Rocket expansion, and I don't think I can part with those. I'd pick up some packs here and there after that, and more recently I tried collecting the Fusion Strike set and some of the 151 set, but I'm just sooo frustrated with how the market is now. After going a year without buying any Pokemon cards, I've decided I'm probably going to keep whichever cards I really like and try to sell the rest. I'm definitely keeping everything from the Original series though. Also my old promo cards from the first movie and such. They really hold some precious memories.
