What's your favorite(s)?

just what it says on the tin! do you have a favorite? how popular is your favorite? what kind of less-popular pokemon do you like, if the one you like most is popular?

i'll start! growing up, i really had a fondness for azumarill, since it was my first holo tcg card from the neo discoveries set. obviously i enjoyed eevee, too, but that one is so well-liked it'd be difficult to find someone who doesn't like eevee.

over time i found myself being fond of umbreon and riolu (probably circa middle school), then gaining an appreciation for togekiss some time when i was still in college. it wasn't long after that when i started shiny hunting wingull (or "melan hunting" for the pokefarm players in the crowd!) that i realized i deeply appreciate wingull.

right now, i would say wingull is my #1 favorite of all time, as it has been for almost a decade now. i even have a sitting cuties plush of it sitting on my shelf right now!

One of the things I love about Pokemon is how there are so many different species that there's something for everyone!

I have a lot of species that I like, but I think Mewtwo and Lugia are at the top of the list. I know liking Mewtwo is way mainstream, but back in Gen I, he was pretty much the ultimate Pokemon, haha. I also thought his backstory was really interesting. And I've loved Lugia's design ever since the West started learning about Gold and Silver. It's a different-looking kind of dragon.

I also tend to like a lot of Psychic and Steel types. I'm a big Gardevoir fan (as you can tell from my user icon). I also really love Ampharos because you don't expect a sheep to evolve into a dragon, and I think Ampharos is just about one of the cutest dragons I've ever seen. (I know it's not actually a Dragon-type, but its Japanese name translates as "electric dragon" and it does have a Dragon-type Mega Evolution.) Usually if there's a core series game where the Mareep line is available, I end up having an Ampharos on my team.

Rowlet is my absolute favourite Pokémon these days, but I used to love Latios. I also have a great fondness for steel-types such as Forretress, Steelix, and Scizor. I also like Grimer, and many many more! It's hard to have one favourite when you've been playing the series for as long as I have!

Darren I'm a huge Steel-type fan too! Those Gen II Steel-types were fantastic, and I love how in more recent games you can get a lot of them without having to trade with anyone. I enjoy rolling up to a Gym with my Steelix like "sup peeps, ready to be crushed?".

I think that's why Jasmine is my favorite Gen II human character, because she's this quiet, polite girl with a team of ironclad behemoths. Definitely no pushover.

I have a lot of favourites, to the point where it doesn't feel fair to highlight only one or two, or five...
Pokemon like Gardevoir, Meowscarada, Vaporeon, Ninetales (especially the ALolan form), Garchomp, Tinkaton, Hisuian Lilligant, Scizor, Latias, Ogerpon... Honestly, I could be here for days.

Pikachu will always be number one, but I have way too many favorites. Aerodactyl, Torkoal, Sealeo, Tirtouga, Anorith, Garchomp, Venusaur, Nidoran Male, Cyndaquil (really its whole line in general), Squirtle, Golem, Wattrel, Buzzwole (I entirely blame Shuffle for this one), Rayquaza, Moltres, Swampert… and honestly a ton more.

My favourite is Nosepass! ^^ I think it's really cute, and I get really happy whenever it pops up in a playthrough. It's not very popular, but I do know it got at least 100 votes in the Johto Times popularity poll...! That, to me, counts as a huge win :3

My other favourite pokemon are probably pretty standard cute/cool 'mons (or, at least more standard than Nosepass, hehe). To name a handful: Sunkern, Umbreon, Lunala, Ogerpon, Sandshrew, Zoroark, Croconaw, Feraligatr, Scyther, Koraidon, Arrokuda. I think in general, I like Pokemon if they have a dark/space aesthetic, a beasty/dragony aesthetic, or if they're just silly li'l guys.
