i thought it'd be nice to write up something that i think about every so often that comes directly from my childhood, when i was first getting into pokemon as a whole! forgive me if details might be incorrect, as it's been two decades since i've seen this stuff...
i was 6 when i got into pokemon, and if you can believe it, that's also when i first learned to browse the internet! sometime between 2002 and 2006 were prime lurk years for me, as i would haunt serebii.net's page and read all the articles joe merrick had written. but serebii wasn't enough - i needed more. i needed as much fan content as i could beam into my developing brain.
so, i happened upon some fansite - i seem to remember it being pikachu themed, or at the very least, the layout itself was very yellow.
this unknown website hosted a lot of browser fangames, like one about a haunted mansion with pokemon in it, i think, but my favorite was a game featuring furret as a playable character. i recall that it was isometric, and you would walk on a grid(?) and run through stuff like fallen logs or tunnels, with grassy terrain under it all. i believe you were meant to collect something.... might have been various points to complete a level, or something to that effect... but i was so enthralled by furret's inclusion in a fangame! i loved furret.
now that i'm a full grown adult, i've tried my best to track this game down, because i would love to play it again. however, i've come up with nothing. i've tried flashpoint, i've tried internet archive (both wayback machine and actual uploaded software), i've even asked anyone who might seem like they'd remember it. my twin sister remembers playing it with me, so i can't have made this up!
any leads are welcome, but i'm also just content to share this story. i think, even if i never find that game again, it's a treasured memory of mine, and it makes me chuckle to remember how far my search for fan-content went when i exhausted as many "official" resources i could.
if only i could find that game, though!!!!
