Oh, I got one that's entirely my own fault. It starts with Ruby Version- more specifically, the team I used to beat the game for the very first time; Swampert, Linoone, Shiftry, Pelipper, Castform, and Wynaut. An iconic squad to me, and I didn't just keep them in Ruby. I moved them around- into Colosseum and XD once or twice, into FireRed, and into Emerald. And... it's in Emerald that this took place.
Back in those days, I had an Action Replay and I loved just messing around with it. And one time, I found codes online that let you go through a doorway in game and end up in a different location. I used the one for warping to Mirage Tower a lot, just because I thought it was cool to go back to a location that had otherwise permanently disappeared. And then came the fateful day that the idea came to me- what if I activated this code after renting Pokémon in the Battle Factory?
So I tested it out. I put everything in the PC save for a single throwaway Pokémon, rented a team of three in the Battle Factory, and pressed whatever button activated the code (I think it was L or R, that sounds like the kind of thing) before being escorted through the door, and sure enough, I ended up in Mirage Tower, my party replaced with the rentals! And from there, I went on an outright crime spree. I'd steal another three rentals, get to a PC, withdraw Pelipper, Fly back to the Battle Frontier, deposit everything except a throwaway Pokémon, and repeat the process. And then, after one heist, I went to withdraw Pelipper, and... he wasn't there. I realized what must have happened, and reset the game, but the damage was done- I forgot to deposit Pelipper in the PC after that last time Flying back to the Battle Frontier.
I caught another Wingull and evolved it, sure, but it wasn't the same. Eventually, I got less and less joy out of the cheating device, and ultimately stopped using it altogether. I still have the other five- on the Switch and everything. Wynaut is still a Wynaut, too, and I could go on about that little guy. But I never forgot Pelipper. Hell, when Gen 5 rolled around, sometimes I'd climb the Celestial Tower and ring the bell for Pelipper. Sometimes I still do that, in fact.
