Later this year, Johto Times will be hosting our first awards event, where we celebrate the Pokémon fan community. I was inspired by old fansites which would give awards to each other, usually in the form of a simple jpeg image, acknowledging what they liked about their website, and would be displayed proudly on an "Awards" page. While those days appear to be long gone, I love the idea of acknowledging what other communities do, its something positive that I hope a lot of people will want to get behind.
Currently, we are deciding who should be considered for our shortlist, and it would be nice to hear your ideas! Each of the following categories will be judged upon by a panel throughout October and November, which the exception of our final category, which will be voted on by Johto Times readers and the wider Pokémon community.
Here are the categories we have decided upon:
Best Forum Community
This category focuses on dedicated forum communities. A Pokémon fansite must have an active forum community to be considered for this award.
Best Fan Resource
A Pokémon fansite which contains useful resources, such as sprites, documentation, or research pieces.
Best Website Design
A Pokémon fansite which has done a great job with their website design
Best Fanwork
Pokémon fanworks such as music, art, or fanfiction which have a home on a Pokémon fansite
Member Of The Year
This special award is specifically for the Johto Times Community Forum, and will be awarded by the Johto Times team.
Best New Fansite
A Pokémon fansite that opened within the last two years. It's important we show some recognition to these awesome new websites
Best Fansite
The big one! Unlikely the other polls which are voted on by a panel of judges, Johto Times users and the wider Pokémon community will have the opportunity to vote for this one.
